Burnout & Creating Art

It's been a while since I last updated here. Simply said, 2026 has not been great. Daily news about all of the horrific things happening in the United States and the world has really taken a toll on my mental health and creativity. As an artist my goal is to spread joy and inspire others to create art themselves. I believe that making art is a revolutionary act. Art makes us human. But lately I just haven't felt the spark.

I had a lot of goals for this year, but so far most of them have fallen through including work on my visual novel (which I will be taking a hiatus from). I haven't had the time or energy needed to be creative in the way I was hoping I could be. I've been burnt out.

However, despite everything I've still been creating. I've been sketching, working on comics, collaging, making zines- the whole works! Most of the work has been left unfinished or incomplete, but I have to remind myself that it's okay. Not every idea needs to manifest into a full project and I'm still making stuff even if the spark isn't quite there.

As I continue to work through this burnout I still feel as though I'm living like an artist. This year I joined a local Art Collective that has become a place of joy and connection with other queer artists. We managed to put together our first zine project and I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done!

I also tabled at my third zine fest last weekend and remembered how much I love zine making and the zine community. I want to start putting together uniquely designed zines and playing with the medium more (unique shapes, construction, etc..).

I'm going to continue to make art and keep going no matter what happens. I hope you can do the same.

[Sidenote: I plan to update the blog again soon to share some of the zines I've published this year including more information about my comic, "Me Ameba!" which you can check out on itch.io.]
